Yesterday I wrote about wanting to write more. So today I knew I'd have to put something to paper.
I didn't know what to write about, but I knew I'd want to keep the faucet runningWait, what faucet?Glad you asked.
I recently came across a post by writer Julian Shapiro in which he described the creative process of Neil Gaiman and Ed Sheeran, which he in turn had learned about and noticed was the same.
He coined it the Creativity Faucet.
In short, it's about visualizing one's creativity as a backed-up pipe of water. In it, there's a ton of wastewater that needs to be let out before there is clear water.
Creative tasks seem to follow a similar pattern - in order to arrive at original thought and novel creation - one needs to let the faucet run and let the bad stuff out for a while.
Julian said all of this much better than I could rephrase here. So you should read his post.
The goal of my quest to write more is to gain more clarity about my own thoughts. And I know that it will take a while before this clarity arrives.
So in a way this post is just me letting the faucet run.
However, I hope this "wastewater" has some value to you - taking you along on my journey and sharing the concepts I learn about along the way!
